My name is Raquel Klein. URI has a great atmosphere for students to make lasting friendships, enjoy new experiences and get a great education. Even so, being away from home for the first time can come with many challenges. It’s easy to get swept up in the social aspects of college life and fall into a pattern where you might neglect your studies. To help you ace your URI classes and continue to enjoy all of the wonderful experiences at your fingertips I offer you this invaluable advice given to me by my grandmother. She shared this helpful information about attending college for the first time with my older cousins as well and we all have had great academic success as a result.
My grandmother is quite an accomplished woman with two masters degrees and a doctoral degree and this technique even worked for her many years ago when she began her college journey.
“Do not return to your dorm when finished with your classes for the day. Head straight to the library to complete your work, and study there. There are too many distractions once you get back to your room.” The library provides a peaceful study environment where you can also use your RAM card for coffee or snacks. Encourage your friends to join you and make it fun. I’ve created great study habits and study groups because of this advice and achieved Dean’s List status both semesters as a busy freshman. Good luck to you at URI!
