Description of Positions
President
Treasurer/Secretary
Vice President of Jewish Life (Shabbat and Holidays)
Vice President of Recruitment
Vice President of Cultural and Educational Programming
VP of Tzedek (Community Service)
VP of Israel Education
Vice President of Social Media
- Schedule and run Board meetings, including creating agendas
- Schedule and coordinate annual URI Hillel Leadership Retreat/Training in conjunction with the Hillel advisor
- Manage Hillel calendar and conduct annual calendar planning, in consultation with advisor
- Serve as Hillel's liaison to the Student Senate
- Serve as a member of the Hillel Foundation Board
- Represent Hillel at University functions
- Attend monthly Student Senate Presidents meetings
- Have an understanding of the Student Senate Finance Handbook and the Student Organization Manual
- Oversee the operations of the Student Board and assist with Board projects as needed
- Hold signatory power over the Student Senate accounts of Hillel, jointly with the Treasurer
- Attend and outreach for a majority of events
- Engage and build relationships with URI Jewish students and identify students for future leadership positions
- Other tasks as assigned by advisor
Treasurer/Secretary
- Gain a thorough knowledge of the Student Senate Finance Handbook
- Hold signatory power over the accounts of Hillel, jointly with the President
- Record and distribute minutes of Student Board meetings
- Maintain a record of attendance and minutes
- Maintain the constitution and bylaws
- Attend at least eight (8) programs per semester
- Help coordinate Hillel Swag with advisor
- Assist with and coordinate major donation events (URI Day of Giving, Hillel Global Giving Week) with advisor
- Engage and build relationships with URI Jewish students and identify students for future leadership positions
- Assist with board projects as needed
- Other tasks as assigned by advisor
Vice President of Jewish Life (Shabbat and Holidays)
- Coordinate Friday evening Shabbat Services
- Plan themes and menus for Shabbats in cooperation with the Advisor
- Assist with preparation and clean up of Shabbat and holiday meals
- Attend a majority of Shabbat and Holiday events
- Coordinate events, services, and meals around major Holidays with advisor (Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Simchat Torah, Sukkot, Hanukkah, Tu Bishvat, Purim, Passover)
- Outreach and invite students to Shabbats and holidays
- Engage and build relationships with students who have attended or are interested in attending Shabbat and Holiday events
- Other tasks as assigned by advisor
Vice President of Recruitment
- Oversee creation of different committees (FYSH (First Year Students of Hillel), JIGL (Jews in Greek Life), Adamah, Jewish Ski Club, etc.)
- Plan programs around skills, interests, and identities of URI Jewish students
- Oversee and coordinate board outreach and engagement efforts
- Oversee and participate in incoming student engagement over the summer
- Plan and attend Freshfest in the week before the first week of classes
- Oversee and coordinate O-Week events
- Attend Hillel recruitment booths in the Fall (Rhody Fest, Quad Fest, Organization Fairs, Campus Rec Fairs) and in the Spring (Transfer Student Days, Welcome Days, Accepted Student Days, Orientation Days)
- Engage and build relationships with Jewish students who do not usually attend Hillel events
- Other tasks as assigned by advisor
Vice President of Cultural and Educational Programming
- Coordinate Hillel speaker and guest artist events
- Oversee and coordinate Antisemitism Educational events (Oct 7 programming, International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Yom Hashoah)
- Serve as Hillel's liaison to the URI'S Multicultural Student Organization (M.U.S.I.C.) monthly meetings
- Engage and build relationships with students who have attended or are interested in attending interfaith and Holocaust education events
- Oversee and plan the Interfaith Friendsgiving in the Fall and Interfaith Food Festival in the Spring
- Other tasks as assigned by advisor
VP of Tzedek (Community Service)
- Participate in and help recruit 2-3 other students for the Service Engagement Internship (SEI) (interns must be interviewed and approved by Hillel staff)
- Oversee operations of the SEI team
- Coordinate and oversee SEI team meetings
- Plan and host at least 5 tzedakah (community service) or tikkun olam (environmentalism) events per semester
- Attend majority of Tzedek events
- Engage 25 people through tzedek events
- Other tasks as assigned by advisor
- Assist the advisor in identifying Alternative Break trips and gauging student interest
- Recruit individuals to participate on Alternative Break trips
VP of Israel Education
- Recruit for and oversee the Israel Committee
- Plan and host at least three Israel-centric events per semester
- Plan outside speakers and educators for events with advisor
- Plan and host Oct 7, Yom Hazikaron, and Yom Haatzmaut events and education
- Help recruit for Taglit-Birthright Israel trips and other summer programs
- Engage and build relationships with students interested in Israel, have Israeli heritage, have been to Israel, and have been on Taglit Birthright
- Invited to participate in Israel education conferences and seminars
- Serve as the ILN (Israel Leadership Network) representative
- Other tasks as assigned by advisor
Vice President of Social Media
- Find ways to get Hillel's events out on campus
- Meet with VPs & Chairs on a regular basis to facilitate publicity
- Attend majority of Social events
- Update and maintain URI Hillel’s social media presence, including facebook, instagram, & twitter.
- Draft, distribute and pitch news releases, media alerts and other stories
- Design event/program fliers, graphics and other marketing material
- Update Hillel’s website with current events, relevant news, blogposts etc.
- Collaborate with staff on new ideas, directions, and venues for marketing and communications
