Positions at URI Hillel
Hillel hires student interns each year for numerous roles. Some positions are currently filled, but below is a description of the roles. Students interested in applying for the future should contact Amy or Michael.
FRONT DESK INTERNS:
In addition to the duties below, work includes program set up, clerical work, receptionist duties and light janitorial duties. All candidates should be friendly, personable, able to take initiative, and have excellent communication and organizational skills.
Communications Intern
Responsible for the creation of weekly emails (using Constant Contact), website maintenance, program publicity, social media presence, articles and press releases. The ideal candidate will be a skilled writer and should have experience with Constant Contact (or an aptitude for it) and flyer design. Journalism, communications and graphic design majors are strongly encouraged to apply.
Kitchen Manager
Responsible for kitchen, supply closet and pantry organization; dish washing and some food preparation and shopping. The person who holds this position must work on Friday afternoons/early evening, Sundays when brunches take place (approximately once a month), and other dates when larger meals are served. The ideal candidate should have prior kitchen experience and be knowledgeable or willing to learn about Jewish dietary laws. The ideal candidate must have an aptitude for food preparation, be safety minded, maintain cleanliness, and cannot mind getting his/her hands dirty.
Data Base Manager/Record Keeper/Financial Assistant
Responsible for inputting data and maintaining the data base, keeping track of program attendance, assisting the Executive Director in financial record keeping. Ideal candidate should be proficient in Excel and must be extremely detail oriented and discrete. Knowledge of Quick Books a plus and aptitude to become proficient at Little Green Light (data base program).
Photographer
Must own a good quality camera and be available to take photographs at most programs. Upload and organize photos on Dropbox. Hours will very from week to week.
ENGAGEMENT INTERNS:
Responsible for building relationships with uninvolved students and connecting them with Jewish resources and opportunities. Engagement Interns are given a budget to plan activities that enable them to meet Jewish students and follow up with them in an authentic, comfortable, and open way. Interns receive on-going training and supervision by the URI Hillel Professional Staff.
Requirements:
Interns must have excellent social and critical thinking skills; be open-minded, outgoing and friendly; have broad social networks; be self-motivated and dependable; and be interested in opportunities to grow and learn Jewishly. Students who have been previously uninvolved or minimally involved at Hillel are encouraged to apply.
